The Unconscious Side Of Career Mental Blocks

Man with career mental blocks

Are you dealing with career mental blocks like imposter syndrome, fear of public speaking, or even stress?

Oftentimes, when people get mental blocks, they attempt to either smash their way through or ignore it and pretend it doesn’t exist

And either way is not good

It might take years to periodically chip at a mental block before you see a glimpse of the other side

And ignoring such mental blocks only cause physical health issues because of the mind-body connection

The best way to move forward is to take the right steps with proper guidance

But before we can do that, you need to understand…

How did we get here in the first place?

Lee McKing asked what are career mental blocks

How do we get mental blocks?

Now of course, mental blocks can be used to describe a variety of things, from hindering a thought process, sudden forgetfulness of information or an action, or even unwanted emotions that restrict a task or action

Some mental blocks can come from childhood trauma, which may cause uncontrollable fear or rage causing tunnel vision or making one unable to complete what they are suppose to do

Depending on which mental block and how it was created in our mind, hypnosis is an excellent way to process and resolve the block effectively

Because more often than not, something was planted in our unconscious mind and it grew over time

Whether it is something more serious like a childhood trauma, or something milder like a learnt pattern or trait

And regardless whether it was intentional or unintentional

Finding the right way though our unconscious mind allows us an effective way to dissolve such blockages

You might be thinking that your boss being overbearing is the stressful element, and has nothing to do with your childhood or trauma

Yet for all you know, that is a replication of an overbearing parent during your childhood

Which is why hypnosis is an excellent tool to resolve such patterns within the unconscious

Anyway for now, let’s look at 3 major mental blocks affecting people’s careers

Imposter syndrome as a career mental block

1. Impostor Syndrome

What is impostor syndrome?

Impostor syndrome, also known as impostor phenomenon or impostorism, is a psychological experience in which a person suffers from feelings of intellectual and/or professional fraudulence. – From Wikipedia

The simple version is that one doesn’t feel like that deserve what they achieve in their life or career

And why does this happen?

In my honest opinion, I believe it is because many people go around and promote this idea which I feel it is more harmful than beneficial

That idea is to “fake it til you make it”

I honestly hate that expression

You might be thinking…

“Why McKing? I thought if we fake it, the universe will manifest it for us so that we make it?”

Or some similar question

Well, look at the original intent – which is to fake it

Look at imposter syndrome – where one ‘suffers from feelings of intellectual and/or professional fraudulence’

I believe you are making a connection but just in case

If you fake your achievements… down the road, you get negative feelings that you faked it

That you lied and bluff and deceived people through and through

Be it in your school, career, life etc

Literally… the “fake it til you make it” expression is creating more people with imposter syndromes!

And that creates anxiety in oneself, fear of being found out, of not being able to perform, of getting called out

You get the idea

Imposter syndrome can create worse outcomes too

Such as declining promotions so that you won’t get found out, or even developing self-sabotaging behaviors

I really hate such expressions which people think are good but are actually corrupting them within

Eh… maybe one day I can write a list of top 10 expressions I hate

Let me know if you want such a list lol

2. Fear of Public Speaking

Its name is Glossophobia and it is supposedly the number 1 fear in the world

Now if you ask me, most of the time, this fear stems from a learned response

Whether it’s learned from parents, or learned through school

If one were to learn the fear of public speaking from parents, it usually means the parents have a similar fear, or anxiety

Similar fears can be stage fright, fear of rejection, fear of ridicule etc

Whereas if one were to learn through school, more likely there is some “trauma” involved

Perhaps one made a mistake singing the National Anthem and got laughed at, or realized everyone is looking and the voice got stuck in the throat

By the way, while fear of public speaking, presentation and stage fright might seem similar, they are different if you look at the nuances

One involve speaking in public, which can be all

Another requires slides to present usually

And the last needs a stage, which affects singing and acting

Thus someone with the fear of public speaking, might still be able to sing on stage

Regardless, such fears can hinder one in their career performance, especially if they need to present in meetings or conduct sales

Besides the fear and anxiety that one might experience prior to the event, the mind-body connection might cause psychosomatic symptoms as well

Causing tummy aches, diarrhea, fever, etc

While something like Toastmasters might teach you how to speak and present, one’s emotions and fears may not so easily settle

I once met a man who was in such a club for 15-20 years, yet I could still hear the trembling in his voice

So if you don’t want such mental blocks to continue hindering your career prospects, then naturally you need to do something about it

Career stress, anxiety, overworked, fatigue, mental blocks

3. Career Stress

Career stress is quite interesting to me

Stress in the working environment can come from various places right?

If you are in the sales line, then meeting the targets and expectations of the bosses

Or perhaps you are a manager and need to ensure your department is able to perform

You have KPIs to deliver, or perhaps an important project to complete under time constraints

Besides dealing with your boss, you might have to handle customers on the ground too

All the above, and more, can create career stress

Therein lies an interesting problem

Because the above environment generates stress… which creates mental blocks and hinders your performance more…

Such as needing to work late into the night to deliver your KPIs

Or needing to lash out at your partner when you get home

And thus, generates more stress

This has a huge negative feedback loop

And we don’t even need to talk about how stress can cause damage to your body

But you can see how once it starts, if you don’t rectify it at its core, it will just escalate over time

And obviously, brute force doesn’t cut it

Either you change the physical working environment, or you change the internal emotional environment

Turning mental blocks into mental flow~

Will require working on the unconscious level

mental clarity, stress free, meditation

How To Start Clearing Your Mental Blocks

Of course, this is just to start things moving

If you need specific solutions, or on a greater scale, you can contact me through the purple button and make an appointment

Essentially, there are 3As to start the change, the healing, the resolutions

1. Awareness

You start by being aware of your situation, being aware there are problems

However, if you avoid it, don’t want to look at it, then you cannot begin the first step

2. Acceptance

You accept the situation if necessary, accept that there are problems

However, if you deny the situation or the problems, then you cannot begin to solve it

3. Action

Finally, you can take the right action towards change, towards healing

However, if you take the wrong actions, or do not take any actions, then naturally, the problems cannot be resolved, and might even get worse over time

Example:

Say Michael has imposter syndrome for being a trainer, and developed a fear of public speaking, and stress to sustain his business

He first has to be aware that he has imposter syndrome, as well as the fear of public speaking and stress

If he were to continue to deny, and “fake it more”, then naturally, his business will suffer, and so does his mental health

After all, people can easily tell when someone is faking it

After being aware, Michael need to accept that he has made some mistakes, such as “faking it” which cause him to have imposter syndrome

And in this example, also develop the other issues

Finally, the right action is to correct his mindset towards authenticity

Whether he does counselling, hypnosis, or attend more courses, that is his choice

Anyway, I hope this helps you to begin dissolving your career mental blocks and see breakthroughs in your success!
