TLDR: Often times it is the parents beliefs, words and behaviors that can plant eating disorders into their children, with a secondary cause of society, public perception, and peer pressure
I’ll be honest with you
Over 800 people I have hypnotized, and maybe a much higher number if I just include the complimentary consultations for people to share their issues, and I only have had at most 2 handfuls of clients who have eating disorders
And of course, besides the more commonly known bulimia and anorexia, people might come to me with binge eating disorders, or other food related to address and resolve
Naturally I see some common patterns which I will like to share to be made aware of, if you didn’t already know
Because it is so sad to see clients coming with their eating disorders and sharing their family profile, history, etc
Ideally, such things have to stop, or at least reduce so as not to harm the future generations
Although I completely understand if you wish to take it with a pinch of salt

It usually starts from the family
Yes, probably the largest factor is due to family
And this is a wide range of factors, from the parents beliefs, to the type of childhood the child experiences, among other things
Some could be rather serious, and yet some are laughably mild
Why I say that is because sometimes, the real root of the eating disorders come from a place or event which is normally not an issue
Take this case where this girl had bulimia for 8 years, and resolved her issue in 1 session of hypnosis
Her root issue came from seeing her mom vomit at 9 years old
Regardless of whether the reason the mom vomited was food poisoning, sick, or the mom was bulimic herself, her unconscious mind took that imagery to form a pattern of vomiting
And thus become her bulimia
Imagine just seeing your mom having a physical sickness, which got planted into your mind to become a mental illness
If you ever hear of anyone with random fevers, headaches, stomachaches, perhaps they have such an issue!
Then of course, we have the midrange type of issues, where it is questionable or bordering in between a prank, a joke, or a trauma
I recall this case where this girl was told by her dad that she is fat, whether it was said harshly or told as a joke doesn’t matter
The poor girl developed anorexia because of her father’s words
Needless to say of actual trauma and abuse
There are a few cases where due to physical, verbal or sexual trauma, the girls might develop binge eating disorders and become overweight
Those are definitely more damaging in more ways than one
Causing a variety of other mental health issues as well

How society affects eating disorders
There are 2 ways to go about it that I can see for now
First is easiest to understand
If slim beautiful girls are beautified, sexualized, or given more attention to, then the girls might want to move towards it
Sure they can have more healthy dieting or exercising habits, but who’s to say they don’t have eating disorders as well as regular exercise too?
Which to me, stacks on top of childhood issues, causing anorexia and/ or bulimia
Actually you know what, it is possible they can develop unhealthy exercising habits too
The second way I am seeing, is how the body positivity movement might allow overweight people to continue to eat and be overweight
While this might draw some flak, the truth is, their physical health might have an issue in the long run
And in both accounts, the focus on their eating or lack of eating is misdirected
To me, looking at their roots and where or how their eating disorders come about, will be able to resolve it properly and move them towards healthier eating instead
Either case, social media might be causing more harm in such mental health issues
And it doesn’t help when influencers sexualized their content and images too
Thankfully not all, but it does feel like quite a number
The other tricky topic is societal peer pressure
Similarly, when we look at how relationships and couples might be formed, or bullying cases might occur
There is a small part affecting this too
But how to tell people who you can and cannot be friends with right?

Healthier food and therapy
Don’t take this the wrong way, but healthier food options doesn’t mean eating only vegetables only
And that is where I believe, a number of dieting or detox plans might cause detrimental effects in the long run
I picked up TCM in 2024 and realized that everyone can have different compositions to their body
And even if people have the same “illness”, they might be afflicted with different health conditions which require different food remedies
So healthier food options to each person can be very different food to avoid and food to take more of
Yea, I cannot tell you what’s good for you because I don’t know you yet
I had a client who thought spices is anti-oxidant and good for health, so she took a blend of spices everyday to drink
And subsequently ended up with a severe heat and dryness health condition, causing gum infection, fever, and dry mouth
Spices is good, but only in moderation
Anyway, more importantly, is the idea of therapy and mental health care
It is only through resolution of our mental health issues, can we then be free of our issues, including fixing eating disorders (and weight management if we are on that topic)
I had a client who realized she had a mental health issue after multiple times of losing and regaining her weight
Long story short, because she was sexually assaulted by a family member, her unconscious mind developed to binge eat and gain wealth to appear unattractive in order to protect from sexual assault
So without resolving that issue, her weight will keep coming back to protect her in such a manner
That’s why recognizing where the real issue is coming from is crucial
Otherwise, we will just yo-yo around and never truly be free~

It goes back to family
If you are a parent and care for your child, I need you to realize that your child is still learning about this world
And that you need to treat your child with care and love
And yet, also to teach your child the right values and beliefs
That sort of means that you cannot be giving in to your child excessively
For example, especially in Asian culture where food is love~
It can be quite common for parents or grandparents to give more food and ask the child or grandchild to eat more
Similar to that effect, is not to let your child eat excessively just because they want to
This may or may not constitute to binge eating in adult years, but definitely may be a part of weight issues in the future
In the topic of food and eating disorders, this also means you got to teach your child to eat a balanced meal
I heard of a story where the child can only eat chocolate and candy, so the mom doesn’t give him normal food at all
Imagine the future diabetes… sigh…
Besides that, there is possible malnutrition and worse case, inadequate nutrition for puberty growth
On top of that, if you have issues yourself that might cause verbal, physical or sexual abuse, please get it sorted out
Your child is innocent in this regard, and it ain’t right to take out your issues on them
Think twice before you crack a joke
Because if that joke might hurt them in ways unimaginable, the future consequences might be…
Long lasting…

Hypnosis is a viable solution for eating disorders
They say prevention is better than cure
But if it’s too late, there is hypnosis
Hypnotherapy is a great way to get to the roots of the issue and resolve it from there
By releasing the negative patterns, beliefs, or emotions that is causing the eating disorders
You will find that the issue is resolved within a single session most of the time
To be fair, there may be a small number of cases requiring more than a session
Why?
Well, we cannot expect all victims of sexual assault to easily resolve and forgive the culprit
Assuming that is the cause of their eating disorders
And thus, I will say most of the time
Of course, another factor is whether the client themselves is ready to resolve their eating disorder
Especially when it is part of their coping or protective mechanism
If so, then the chat is ever more important
For them to share in a safe environment
Gaining the clarity of how their mind works, and the right action to take
That is the first step towards recovery
