tldr: what happened during the early growing years can cause depression, and affects boys and girls differently
A client sent this Straits Times article to me and told me, “You were right”
But what was I right about?
Well, there were many key points mentioned in the article which I have shared to my clients, friends, and of course, on my website in my blogs here and there
Granted, now that people are looking and having studies about it will be helpful~
However, such studies are usually within the psychology or research community (depending on what the study is under) and not usually known to the wider public
Which is why I keep sharing and sharing because it is so important for people to know and understand
Let’s take a look at the article and break down some key points

The overarching conclusion
Yes I know it’s funny to start with the conclusion hahaha
Anyway, the early growing years during our childhood can affect our mental state, and in this study, can cause depression symptoms, among other things of course (just that this study focuses only on depression)
The other key point is that boys and girls get affected by depression differently, and display different symptoms
Interestingly enough, the second paragraph seems to suggest that people are looking only in the teenage years, and now with the study, will also need to consider looking at the early childhood
Actually it is quite sad to hear personally
It’s like they think children are ok and only affected when they hit puberty and teenage years
And if you have been following my content for a while, you will know I keep talking about childhood and family upbringing
Whatever the parents do and don’t do etc is so crucial and can affect the child’s mental state and life!
Understandably, people tend to attribute their depression was due to a recent event, without realizing the original trauma or event started way earlier in the early childhood years
I get that the article is attempting to be uplifting like wow now the early childhood years can get more timely support
But at the same time I’m like… so the past couple of generations had to suffer more?
That’s why I keep sharing and educating about the mind and how it works
If you are new to my content, click the links I have given to learn more about how the mind works
Tiktok live: What can cause depression after divorce
I’ve been doing Tiktok lives for about 2 months now (@leemckingthehypnotist if you want to follow!)
And there was someone who asked how to break depression after a divorce in the live
I shared how I can understand why he may think the divorce can cause depression but we got to understand several things
Understandably, he might not be comfortable to share private details on a public platform, so I decided to give an overview
Firstly, how the divorce occurred might affect how badly the depression might be
I used the example of knowing your spouse is cheating on you outside, versus knowing your spouse brought the lover to the home
And if we compare this to just differences or arguments, its a whole different ball game
Bringing the lover to the home might feel like an invasion of the home, and whack the inner psyche far worse
However, I also shared on the live, that there may be underlying factors during childhood or other instances that is stacking upon the issue
Maybe he was being scolded often by his boss or he had a traumatic childhood
All these can cause depression symptoms to appear
Just that the divorce was the final straw
And that it all hit him and he got a diagnosis of depression
Thus depending on how the problem is constructed in his mind, there will be a range of techniques to choose from to help more effectively

Gender can cause depression symptoms differently
So the article continues to share that different brain regions for girls and boys are affected by depression
For girls, the areas affect emotional processing, while for boys, “changes in other brain areas” affect their energy levels or feel ineffective
I might deduce that the limbic system is a possible area of the brain for processing emotion but… I have no idea what part of the brain affects energy levels or makes one feel ineffective
You will think energy levels is due to the body and food we take right?
It’s kinda vague
So I can’t comment too much about the energy levels, but yea, I can see how girls might be affected with emotional issues under depression
Which also relates to how I do my questioning and consultations with my clients
I don’t want to know what diagnosis you have, I want to know the specific symptoms you have
So that I know what to do to help you resolve them fully
Another thing the article mentioned was that teenage girls are 2.5 times more likely to report depression, as compared to boys
But… generally speaking, boys are usually taught to keep their emotions to themselves, or even more specific, not to seek help
Girls on the other hand, are more likely to seek help anyway
Boys want to appear strong, or are taught to appear strong and silent
Most of my clients are female, so it is across the board
And unfortunately, still affecting us today
Of course, the article also mentioned that this doesn’t means all girls and boys will get their respective symptoms only
It is a general guide

Mental health treatment today
Towards the end, the article mentioned why a one-size-fits-all approach isn’t good for mental health support
Internally I’m groaning to be honest
They are still doing a one-size-fits-all for mental health support…
If you ever wonder why most people with mental health issues over the years don’t get a true cure, only how to manage their symptoms
Or even using the same medication for a range of different symptoms
One of my clients was surprised that years ago, she took medicine A for her anxiety and years later, she is taking the same medicine A for a physical illness
The exact same pill~
We have to understand that everyone’s mind is uniquely designed
Their problems are also constructed differently
And that’s why I spend the time with each client
A 2 hour complimentary consultation to understand your issues and your mind
Yea, I’m not making money hahaha
I just feel mental health is too important to ignore, and delay proper treatment
And my hypnotherapy treatment will vary depending on your issues
Whether I use symbolism, a regression, or parts integration
Or a forgiveness process
Different techniques required for different issues and people
Anyway, if you want a consultation to see how your issues can be resolved through hypnosis, just tap the purple button and chat with me
