Yes, a lot of people ask me regarding hypnotherapy for anxiety, besides the usual depression, fear, phobias etc
Of course, some do ask about relationship or money patterns too but today is all about anxiety
Now of course there are different types of anxiety such as social anxiety or generalized anxiety disorder
And for the purpose of this article, anxiety will be used to refer to them as a collective
And naturally, I won’t be sharing so much about the other types but you can explore a bit in this other article I wrote about the conventional types of therapy for anxiety
So, what is anxiety?
Anxiety is an emotion which is characterized by an unpleasant state of inner turmoil and includes feelings of dread over anticipated events. – Wikipedia
So if those events are related to social events, then you get social anxiety, and if it is regarding exams, it could be a type of exam anxiety
Now here’s the thing about anxiety
When it becomes excessive, then yes we have a problem known as an anxiety disorder
However, when it is mild, such anxiety is considered pretty normal and ok
I define anxiety as the emotion that prepares us for future events
If you never been married before, then you might have some pre-marriage anxiety because you want to prepare for a wedding and ensure everything goes well
That makes sense and thus, it is perfectly fine to have some anxiety about it
If you are preparing for a speech or presentation, then you might have some anxiety before the event too
The problem is when after the event is over and you still have the anxiety, and keep thinking about the past event
Ok so that’s the quick rundown, so how does hypnotherapy for anxiety work?

You see, each of our minds is uniquely constructed with all sorts of variations and different levels of intensity
This is largely due to our parents, how our family and cultural upbringing affects us, what we observe in the natural environment
This also means that our problem, in this case of anxiety, might be constructed in a way that is unique to us and thus, we require personalized treatment methods
Which is why following the “one size fits all” approach tends to create a long treatment process
So yes, even if you go for the traditional methods of hypnotherapy for anxiety, the traditional hypnotherapist might suggest a package of several sessions to work with you
I don’t do that
I use a modern hypnosis method for helping you to resolve your anxiety

Usually I will have a chat with you about your anxiety and other issues if any and this is to allow me to understand how your mind is constructed
And of course, to answer any questions you might have about hypnotherapy in general
After that you can go home and think about what I said
You see, because everyone has such unique constructs, I won’t be able to share all the possible variations
But here are some common constructs and the techniques that I will do
1. It was learnt from the parents
Often times, the parents have their own anxieties and the child growing up in such a setting might “assume” that it is normal to have anxiety
Thus they learn that anxiety is normal
In such a case, we will have to unlearn the anxiety by releasing those learnings from the mind
2. It was caused by the parents (or others) in a form of a trauma
This is also quite common
For such traumatic events, a hypnosis technique called a regression will be done to release and heal the event from the past
It is also known in NLP as Timeline therapy, hypnotic regression
Some might also call it inner child work
3. It takes on a shape and form
Sometimes, people refer to their anxiety as a “monster” and due to this, it can take on such a shape or form
Other times, the anxiety will be a symbol instead
Depending on what symbol it is, we have to adjust accordingly
This has probably the most variations compared to the above
In regards to resolving such unique symbols
Why does hypnotherapy for anxiety work well?
This is because we are all in some form of a trance most of the time
It is how our minds work in its natural state
It’s like if you have a broken computer, you will want to find a computer expert who knows the ins and outs to help you repair it
And you will expect it to be fast, because they are an expert
My modern style of hypnosis is effective because I aim to understand how your mind is working first, before we go about resolving the issue
Now to be fair, there are some cases where my clients didn’t believe or want to believe what I suggest about the treatment methods
Say they come with an anxiety and I isolated to a learning from the father
However they didn’t want to forgive the father
So then, will they be able to resolve their anxiety fully?
Unfortunately no, because they didn’t want to forgive the father for whatever reason
That is their choice
And of course, some people might come with other issues, anxiety with depression, or anxiety with phobia, etc
That’s where you need to have a good understanding of the mind and how things come into play
As well as why I don’t do hypnosis on the spot
